The University of Mississippi is a public, research institution located in Oxford, Mississippi; it also operates out of regional campuses in Tupelo and Southaven. Chartered by the Mississippi Legislature in 1844, the university opened its doors to students in the year 1848, and it has a current student enrollment of 17,323 students. The university operates out of the following schools and colleges: Accountancy, Applied Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Nursing, Law, Pharmacy, Liberal Arts, Dentistry, Health Related Professions, and Medicine.
